Welcome to the website of TelEp, the telemedicine network for epilepsy in northern Bavaria.
TelEp is one of the first networks to use telemedicine to diagnose and treat epilepsy. The initial project was funded by the State Ministry of Public Health and Care Services.
The Epilepsy Center at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen (Director: Prof. Dr. Hajo Hamer, MHBA) provides its expertise as the coordinating center. The network comprises hospitals and neurologists with their own practices, who are often referred patients suffering from acute cases of epilepsy. At the current time, the partners in TelEp are Leopoldina Hospital Schweinfurt, Sozialstiftung Bamberg, Klinikum Weiden, Epilepsiezentrum Rummelsberg, Klinikum Bad Neustadt, Krankenhaus Schloss Werneck, Klinikum Bayreuth, Klinikum am Europakanal Erlangen and a joint neurological practice in Nuremberg.
An international collaboration has also been established with the University Medical Centre Ljubljana (Slovenia) and the Department of Neurosurgery at AKH, Vienna (Austria). These international relations allow Slovenian patients to be offered optimal medical care in the areas of pre-surgical epilepsy diagnostics, surgery, and after-care. Further information: SloGerAu.
The aim of our partnership is to provide all epilepsy patients the opportunity to benefit from a high standard of diagnosis and treatment, including differential diagnosis, across regional boundaries and with short waiting times.
TelEp may act as a flagship project, inspiring others to take a similar approach. Telemedicine has the potential to significantly improve health care services, particularly in areas suffering from a lack of specialist physicians.
Sincerely,
Prof. Dr. med. Hajo Hamer, MHBA, coordinator of the TelEp project and Director of the Epilepsy Center Erlangen
